CROATIA - Plitvice Lakes Nat Park

Plitvice Lakes National Park is a 295 km² forest reserve in central Croatia. It is known for a chain of 16 terraced lakes, connected by waterfalls, that extend through a limestone canyon. Walkways and hiking trails wind around and over the water, and an electric boat connects the 12 upper lakes and the 4 lower lakes. The latter are home to Veliki Slap, a 78-meter-high waterfall. Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, for its outstanding and picturesque series of tufa lakes, caves, and connected waterfalls.
