CORSICA Island
Corsica is situated 160 km off of the southern coast of France in the gulf of Genoa, but it is actually closer to Italy which it was in possession of until 1768 when it was purchased by France. The island is a mix of rugged cliffs and excellent beaches; and unspoiled by high-rise buildings as the coast is restricted to two-storey dwellings. The language is Corsu, closer to Italian than French and maintained by exclusivity in street and shop signs around the island. Its economy is largely based on agriculture, as well as tourism, which supply chestnuts, lumber and cork. The cuisine of Corsican delicacies is founded upon seasonality and as such some of its specialties (large range of corsican cheese or typical sausages).
