Perigord
The Perigord is located approximately 500 km southwest of Paris and 120 km from Bordeaux and famously offers a veritable mosaic of landscapes. It is less than ten thousand square kilometres in size. The Dordogne and Verzere rivers, including prehistoric caves, are examples of its outstanding features, and so beautiful is this region that it is commonly referred to by colour for its regions. The Green Perigord, in the northeast, is named after the variety of green forests of dancing oaks, beech and spruce trees; The White Perigord covers the northwest region and is named after the vast limestone plateau; The Scarlet Perigord in the southwest, named after the large areas reserved for the vines; and finally the Black Perigord, best known for its rich heritage. But do not forget to dip into your budget and taste the truffle of Perigord: as legend has it, a hungry lumberjack offered his last potato to a beggar woman. Turning out that she was a fairy, she magically transformed it into a black mushroom, ebony in colour and incredible smelling!
