Côte d'Ivoire - Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast (or Côte d'Ivoire), is a country located in West Africa and its capical is Yamoussoukro, while its economic capital and largest city is the port city of Abidjan.
Prior to its colonization by Europeans, Ivory Coast was home to several states, including Gyaaman, the Kong Empire, and Baoulé. The area became a protectorate of France in 1843 and was consolidated as a French colony in 1893 and finally achieved its independence in 1960.The official language is French, with 78 local indigenous languages also widely used.
Grand-Bassam (40 Km from Abidjan) is coastal town full of colonial charm, often a retreat for local Ivorians seeking to escape the city life of Abidjan on the weekends.
